Stephanie Corwin

Praised for her “warmth and composure” (Wichita Eagle), bassoonist Stephanie Corwin approaches music of the past five centuries with commitment and curiosity. Equally at home on historical and modern instruments, Stephanie enjoys a wide-ranging career throughout the US and abroad, including solo appearances at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and performances with acclaimed ensembles, including Apollo’s Fire, Tafelmusik, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and the Handel and Haydn Society. Highlights of the 2026-2027 season include a West-coast tour with Les Délices, compelling chamber music with Repast Baroque, and a return to the Tucson Baroque Festival. 

Stephanie is the inaugural winner of the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Bassoon Competition, and she was a semi-finalist in the Ima Hogg Young Artists Competition. As a member of the Intrada Winds quintet, she received prizes at the Fischoff, Coleman, Chesapeake, and Yellow Springs chamber music competitions. 

Valuing the intimate connections fostered through chamber music, Stephanie serves as the managing director and core member of Repast Baroque, a NYC-based ensemble exploring new contexts for early music. She also performs frequently with Piffaro, Mercury Chamber Orchestra, and the Handel and Haydn Society, and serves as the principal bassoonist with Apollo’s Fire, the Clarion Orchestra, and the orchestra of St. John the Divine. 

In addition to teaching privately, Stephanie presents master classes at academic institutions across the country, including the Manhattan School of Music, Shenandoah Conservatory, Yale University, Ithaca College, the Conference of the International Double Reed Society, and the Meg Quigley Bassoon Symposium. Stephanie was the Interim Lecturer of Bassoon at the University of Virginia and has served on faculty at the Chamber Music Conference, Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, and the Amherst Early Music Festival.

A graduate of Davidson College, Stephanie earned her Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University, studying with Frank Morelli at both institutions. Intrigued by the world of historical performance, she went on to study with Michael McCraw at Indiana University, where she received a Performer Diploma in historical bassoons. Stephanie lives in New York City with her husband, composer Joseph Di Ponio, and Sammy, their orange cat.
